YouTube Tags Extractor

Extract the tags from any public YouTube video. Reverse-engineer what's working in your niche, find untapped keywords, and improve your own video discovery.

YouTube Tags Extractor
Paste any YouTube URL. The tool fetches the watch page, extracts all video tags from the embedded metadata, plus title, channel, description, view count, and duration.
What it does

See the tags that put your competitor's video on YouTube's recommended sidebar

YouTube doesn't show video tags in the public UI any more, but they're still embedded in the page source, and they still influence YouTube's recommendation algorithm. The tags your competitors use tell you exactly what they're trying to surface their videos for.

Paste any YouTube URL. The tool extracts the full tag list, ranks tags by likely relevance, identifies obvious branded vs generic tags, and exports the list to CSV for your own video tag research.

YouTube SEO playbook

How tags actually affect YouTube rankings (in 2025)

YouTube's 2018 statement "tags are minor" got widely misquoted as "tags don't matter". They do, but for a specific reason: tags help YouTube CATEGORISE your video and find related content for the recommended sidebar. They don't lift you in search results directly.

What tags actually do

  1. Define what category your video belongs to (used for "Up Next" recommendations).

  2. Help YouTube match your video to viewer interest profiles.

  3. Provide additional metadata for search when title/description are ambiguous.

  4. Catch typo variations of your primary keyword (less important since 2020).

How to use this extractor strategically

Find the top 5 ranking videos for your target query. Extract their tags. Look for patterns: which tags appear on multiple top videos? Those are the category signals YouTube uses to group these videos. Use the same tags on your video, you'll join the same recommendation cluster.
